Roberto Orci Signs on For Galaga Chronicles Animated Series
Galaga may not seem like the most obvious choice to get a Hollywood adaptation, but this is really happening. Roberto Orci has officially signed on to executive produce Galaga Chronicles, an animated series based upon the game.
Via Deadline, Orci will "shape the vast and sprawling Galaga Chronicles universe" alongside The Nuttery Entertainment. Orci's previous credits include the Star Trek reboot films, The Amazing Spider-Man 2, and Transformers. Orci also co-created Fringe and Sleepy Hollow for Fox. In a statement, Orci said "Galaga is one of the games I played growing up. I have fond memories of the quarters and hours upon hours I spent playing the game. I look forward to working with The Nuttery and to capture that magic in an exciting new format."
Galaga was released in 1981 as a sequel to Galaxian, and it is one of the most iconic arcade games of all time. However, there is no story to speak of within the game itself. Players assume control of a lone starship pilot as they attempt to slow down an alien invasion led by by bug-like creatures. It's amazingly fun to play, but there's nothing deeper to it.

Deadline's report also indicated that Galaga Chronicles will be animated by ShadowMachine, the company behind Robot Chicken, BoJack Horseman, and Final Space.
"We couldn't be more stoked to have this level of creativity and craftsmanship on board our space adventure," added The Nuttery CEO Magnus Jansson,. "Roberto's incredible sense of story and science fiction mastery and ShadowMachine's excellent animation and design chops have already elevated the project to the next level. I think we are sitting on an amazing origin story for Galaga that will not disappoint fans of the game, or of science fiction in general.
Galaga Chronicles doesn't currently have a home, but it will be shopped to cable networks and streaming services. The first season is expected to run for 12 episodes.
